Nikon Z8 Focus Mode

This photograph was taken March 18 in Blue Bell with my Nikon Z8 and Sigma 150-600mm lens with a FTZ adapter. The focus mode was set for bird detection and wide area C, I believe. Taken at 1/1250 @ f/8 and auto ISO. Processed in Adobe Photoshop Elements 2022 (with updated ACR) and Topaz Photo AI. The camera was able to maintain focus on the bird even though it was flying very fast through that tangle of twigs. I was impressed.

I posted in the main discussion because the subject of the post is the camera's ability to track the bird, not the bird itself.

Do you have any examples of the bird facing the camera / viewer, with a sharp focus on the eye? Any examples without all the branch clutter? Given the color and focus of this example, those would be the preferable results for bird / BIF photography.

I wish I did, and I will post if I get some. At my minimum skill level, I consider myself lucky to get any BIF image at all.

Seems youve not really read the opening post.

But beyond merely basic proof of Z8 tracking ability theres a dynamic image hiding in there thaz actually dependent on all that tangling of twigs. Edit it a little and you have "Superbird powers thru an obstacle course". See below.

For me too! Thanks for the info. The more you go out, the more you will get.

Maybe Superbird will get his own superhero movie series.

Here is one example of what the Z8 on the autofocus mode of auto can do.

A magnificent capture

And you managed to capture it at the exact instant in which that little flying fish entered its mouth
