The 1955 wagons were popular (Surf Wagons) back in the day.
The “station wagons” could carry several boards with the back seats layed down.
Up to 4 passengers could (squeeze) into the front seat. Steering was not so easy…..
And to think they replaced these with all those mammoth top-heavy SUV's

That it has straight dual exhaust pipes indicates there's been some work done on it besides cleaning up the body. I suspect it's a project car, given the mismatched wheels (mags would look so much better than the moon caps). A nice photo, and I find it interesting that the car is parked in what appears to be a shielded, wooded area. A find!

The closest thing today is probably the Subaru Outback.
You don't see many old station wagons now days because the were great cars for the old time demolition derbies. They always used the back of the car to crash others and the wagons held up better
