Will my Sigma 18-200mm lens work on a new Nikon D7000?

I am in the market for a new Nikon D7000 and was wondering if my Sigma 18-200mm lens will work with the D7000.

It says on the box for the lens that the lens is for Nikon AF D cameras.

While I would normally go to a local camera shop and ask them this question, living in China I have a bit of a language barrier with my local camera store.

Thanks

How old is your Sigma lens?

You should have no problem using it on a D7000.

Thanks. I will take it to the camera shop I bought the Sigma lens and be sure before I purchase the D7000.

It absolutely will. The D7000 will AF literally ANY af type lens with a Nikon F mount.

Thanks MT shooter.

I am considering only getting the body since I have been told that the lenses that come in the kit are inferior.

Consider getting the AF-S Nikkor 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR DX if you want a lens that will allow the D7k to give it's full potential. Your Sigma 18-200 is no better than the Nikkor 18-105 f3.5-5.6G ED VR "kit" lens, especially at the long end. If you really need the longer reach, the Nikkor 18-200mm ƒ/3.5-5.6G IF-ED AF-S DX VR II would also be a good choice. The Nikon D7000 is very unforgiving of poor quality glass.

GrahamS. Thanks for the advice. I have found that I do a lot of street photography and portraits. While I would like to get the Nikkor 18-200, perhaps the 16-85mm is the better choice?
Thanks

The 16-85 is a cracking lens, easier to carry all day, and will give you superb results on the D7k.

OK. Thanks. I was a bit confused when I read the word cracking and lens until I noted you were from the UK.

While I would recommend you buy the body only if you already have a good lens that covers the same range I would not suggest you buy the body only because the kit lens is inferior. (My that's a long sentence). The kit lens that came with my D90 is a great lens and although I have a variety of lenses to choose from I still use the "kit" lens quite often. As always JMHO.

The kit lens on the D7000 is a good lens despite what some folk say. 18-105 gives you great reach. It may fall off a tad at 105 but so do most lens at their maximum reach
