In the first photo, my eyes go towards the light board a in second one it is the Bike and flag!
I like the second one better!

Not knowing the time it was taken by simply looking at the picture I would not have inferred that story.

Maybe not a real popular place?

I wonder if he may be the clean-up crew.

Maybe he had a wee bit too much and had a friend take him home.

The tavern sign in the first provides more relevance. Looking at the second shot alone I would never guessed it was a bar.

Without context, stories are mostly relative to the viewer's interpretation,
and may be quite different between people.
But yea, we can all make a story about any image.

OP didn't ask about cropping but I'd have kept the tavern sign in the shot with the flags and the bikes

They might still be in the establishment, perhaps sleeping on the floor.

I do like the first image best as a story. A hard drinking rider had too many wings and brews and is either sleeping it off in an upstairs room or had a ride home. The Dutch flag implies there is a story about the tavern owner as well.

You have a well done “after dark” photo there.

Dutch flag???????
The one that says "OPEN"?
The flags that are all over the place for businesses?

I believe it says more like "Red, White, and Blue" for the "US".....

That's a scene open to a whole range of interpretations. What I find interesting are the three different applications of exterior treatment on the building.

Back in 1949, a boy was born to two impoverished young people, Bucky and Alicia May. Bucky wanted no part of the responsibility of raising a child and deserted Ally May and young Spike. After a hard winter, Ally May contracted tuberculosis and died. Spike, now two years old, was on his own and struck out with his stuffed tiger to make his way in the world. Discrimination and child labor laws made it difficult for Spike, but he persevered, working at odd jobs all along Route 66, hitchhiking until he could save up enough for a three-speed bicycle.

Fast forward to 1989, and Spike, now 40 years old and still unable to afford a car, Meets Amy Lou, who is a watiress in a small juke joint just over the county line. They fall in love, and Amy tells him that her brother, who was killed in Vietnam, left her his motorcycle, and since they are now a couple, Spike can put his bike in the shed out back and from now on, he can ride the motorcycle. Spike kisses her passionately and goes for a ride.

Time passes, and it's 2024. Spike is 75, living on Supplemental Security Income, which gives him just enough money to buy wax to keep his motorcycle shiny and new-looking. He spends most of his time in the bar where he first met Amy Lou, who was killed when a tree fell on her during a storm. Grief-stricken, Spike turned to drink and one night, his liver failed and he died in the bar. Knowing that Spike had no living relatives, the bar owner just kept the motorcycle, which he left parked out front.

It's a sad story, but it is the one these pictures tell...
