Or a pillar and light? And a person. And a phone, which is also a light. And a phone that is alight. But the phone is not a pillar. Nor is the person, but then not many people are--only Lot’s wife.

Perfect timing, perfect light. The lit (lighted?) phone and backpack suggest student to me. In awe of new college surroundings? Or maybe just another tourist in DC

Haha! More the latter than the former, I think. This was at the Lincoln Memorial, so you pegged the location. There was a huge group of students there, but they looked like high school kids. This guy looked a fair bit older, so tourist seems likely.

The surroundings were inspiring, so the architects met their goal. I felt like I was channeling Alan Schaller with the photos I took that night. Everybody wins!

I lived in the DC area from 1985 - 1991 (Navy). That was also when I took a year-long black and white film class.

I'm sorry I didn't keep the negatives (or at least the prints), of the night shot I got of the Jefferson Memorial, or the day shot of a guard by the steps of the Supreme Court.

Great to know that you found inspiration in the awe-inspiring beauty of the monuments and memorials, and we get to enjoy that feeling through your photos!

Oddly, even though I lived just south of Baltimore for a couple of years and have returned to D.C. a few times since, I haven't yet made it to the Jefferson Memorial. I would like to have seen how you experienced it.
