Crazy situation. Two years ago, I had a microwave that burnt up. Went and got a large toaster oven. Loved it.
I had it less than 6 months and it started smoking...BADLY.
I went and got a new microwave and a smaller toaster oven.
Now the microwave is smoking when you run it more that 30 seconds.
I still have the larger toaster oven and like it so much better than the small one, but afraid to plug it in any more.
Anybody have an idea what could be happening or if they can or cannot be fixed????
Have an electrician check the outlet for loose connections and correct voltage.
No extension cord should be used.
Is there enough breathing room in the location where these appliance's are placed? The user guide should state the requirements.
Good luck and be safe.

Thank you. An electrician lives next door. I'm sure he won't mind taking a look at it.

It would be interesting to see what he says...

A friend told me that any speck of dirt or grease in them would make them smoke but mine are as clean as clean can get, just like brand new.
I'll let you know what he says....when I can catch him.
While it's most unlikely you possibly has too high voltage like 240V instead of 120V.

Thank you for looking and responding. I'll see if he will check that out for me.

Can you determine if the smoke comes out of the cooking chamber, or from the operational innards outside the cooking chamber?

Did you get them at Best Buy? Are they Insignia brand? They are having the second big recall in the last 3 years or so for just those kinds of problems.

It's coming from that little screen where you can see it was smoked (black) at the bottom. There's not much way to get grease off that pops into that screen but I've had microwaves for many years and never had one smoke because of that.
No, it's not an expensive one. Hamilton Beach. If I burnt up an expensive one, I might get mad! LOL

in the last 40 years, I’ve had one Samsung and one GE (which I still have and works like new), so I can recommend both brands.

But it's not a camera. It's just a microwave.

Completely different receptacle. You couldn't plug it into 230.
