Last Saturday was my first photo outing in over year. We went to Merritt Island to enjoy Black Point Drive. What a great feeling to be there enjoying a beautiful day. The birds were around but not in the numbers they would have been a month earlier. The Drive was invigorating as always. The feeling is hard to explain.

This was our first bird sighting near the entrance.

Thistles are a common sight along the first part of the Drive. There are always other wild flowers as well.

The pink thistles are my favorite but this trip we saw a lot of white ones as well. The bees don't seem to care what color they are.

Wide open expanses of brackish water can be seen in some areas.

Where there is water, there are almost always Mangroves. They surround many of the open areas and make little islands wherever conditions are right. The scenery is far more beautiful and refreshing than pictures can convey.

Congrats on getting back out in the Florida environment. You chose a great location and got some very nice photos. Black Point Drive at Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge is a treasure. I've been fortunate to discover and visit there thrice in recent months. I hope you are able to return there soon.
