The black-fronted dotterel (Charadrius melanops) is a small plover in the family Charadriidae that is found throughout much of Australia and New Zealand.
I took these shots about 5 years ago now and sadly the lovely sandy area on the edge of these wetlands is now overgrown with reeds.
Even the bird hide that's there is so covered with reeds you can't see out of it.

Very nice set, Ron. The bird resembles our killdeer.

Great bird Ron. It was on my to see list when I was young enough to think I would go to Australia some day.

Apart from some colouration and the chest markings, very similar..probably because they are both Plovers..?

Very nice, Ron. It's a shame the area was not maintained. We have several places like that here where I live that were once great for wildlife but have deteriorated for lack of care.
