Continuing in my quest to get a feel for some of the latest smart telescope technology (in anticipation of Celestron's Origin product).
I loaded my (unmodded) Sony A7R V camera and Astro-Tech 64 EDQ on a Celestron Evolution mount and shot 274x15 sec. subs (~1 hour) @ ISO12800 of the Horsehead Nebula.
The initial stacked image out of PixInsight wasn't all that promising (1st image) but a bit of postprocessing in Lightroom/Photoshop resulted in something close to acceptable; two versions in the 2nd and 3rd images.
I'm beginning to believe short exposures off an Alt/Az mount may actually have some promise, particularly when one considers the Origin has an focal ratio of 2.2 (and I was shooting these examples at f/6.5)...
