I know spring has arrived when the flies show themselves. This is my first fly of the 2014 season and the little bugger made the mistake of annoying me so that was the end of it. I caught it in a pill bottle and took it downstairs to stage it for a focused stacking session using a 5X microscope objective as the optic of the camera.

Swat'em if you got'em..!

LOL. Driving in Chicago yesterday, we had an early spring fly riding along on the windshield. Nothing as close as this wonder!!

Thanks for stopping by and for the reply. I imagine your fly was just hitching a ride.

Excellent. Keep them coming. (I think you meant the first of 2024, not 2014?)

I've seen a couple so far. I couldn't kill one and leave it in tact for a shoot - nice work.

Thanks, Manglesphoto. My darn fingers typed 2014 instead of 2024.

Thanks, Elliott. I've gotten fairly good at catching them with a pill bottle.

Your images are well above the standard of most biological text books I have seen. The magnified detail is, as always, fascinating.
