In an earlier post I shared photos of the old townsite at Fort Bayard, fascinating in its deterioration. But my usual reason for heading that way is to access the trails. There are something like 130 miles of trail throughout the expansive Fort Bayard Wildlife Management Area, so it's a great destination for longer hikes or bike rides through varied terrain, from rugged craggy hills to flat open meadows full of elk to shady riparian areas (full of cows, boo). Recently I got a mountain lion on one of two trail cameras out there.
Most of my photos from Fort Bayard hikes are on my phone, so I will randomly share a set from the album dedicated to this area, which is one of my favorites and feels like an old friend. I hope you get a sense of how wonderful it is, and how lucky I am to have landed here back in 1987, so close to many forms of heaven.
I've said it before and I'll repeat it: my processing of phone photos is way less subdued than what I do with my "real" photos! I just have fun with it.

Very nice!! I really like #3, #6, and #9!! I love the texture in the tree of #4. Is that a coyote print in # 7?

That is a cool tree, a favorite of mine for the way it arches over the trail. It's an alligator juniper. That print is a mountain lion's. You know I like to live dangerously.

Thanks. To me the place is a treasure. It was hard to choose just ten photos to represent it.
Very interesting and well-done series of photos. Thanks for sharing. It’s a beautiful and interesting place.

Thay are all fantastic shots and one more interesting then the next. Great job of capturing them. My favorite is the creek peaceful and beautiful. The mountain lion paw print is something you do not see every day. Keep the posts coming.

I appreciate that. I used to spend a lot of my free time out there, running the trails with my series of dogs. When they were gone and the trail system had been "discovered" and subsequently improved and given names and signs, I took a break spanning several years, but now I'm back.
