What Happened To Studebaker Automobiles?

Those were gorgeous cars, and a 4-speed no less ( the main reason I hate automatics is often the lack of compression braking, and I'm so used to the big truck 10-speeds). I read that the hawk was to compete with the T-Bird but in those days (including the Avanti), Studebaker, in my humble opinion, had much better styling. It took the T-Bird a while to catch up.

Found a picture of what looked like (color &c.) my first car: A 1963 Hawk Gt R3. Paxton blower, 4spd. Girling (Bendix) solid non-vented front disks — [Notable fade!]; AC, radio.

STILL looks better than most of the junky little squish-boxes out there today . . . .

Very nice!
