This will go to court. Dartmouth claims they're not employees of the college. None of those who v**ed to unionize will be around by the time this is settled.

If allowed this is the death knell of college sports, and good riddance. Now tax the stadiums and arenas that are built with tax dollars. Tax the income of all the athletic departments. Remove any tax exemptions of all the tax avoidance schemes that surround and support college (sic semi-pro) "athletes".

Dartmouth College is "One of the world's greatest academic institutions and a member of the Ivy League, Dartmouth has been educating leaders since 1769."

Their basketball team is called "The Big Green." Not as funny, I guess?

"Dartmouth had told students that unionizing could get the team kicked out of the Ivy League, or even the NCAA. In a statement, the school said it was supportive of the five unions it negotiates with on campus, including SEIU Local 560, but insisted that the players are students, not employees.

'For Ivy League students who are varsity athletes, academics are of primary importance, and athletic pursuit is part of the educational experience,” the school said in a statement. “Classifying these students as employees simply because they play basketball is as unprecedented as it is inaccurate. We, therefore, do not believe unionization is appropriate.'" From this.

In the UK Dartmouth is a town at the mouth of the River Dart.

And full of rich and ancient history!

"Dartmouth is a yachting centre and has boatbuilding, light engineering, and pottery industries. The castle (1481) guarded the entrance to the estuary, from which Richard I’s Crusaders set sail in 1190. In 1944 detachments of Allied troops sailed from there to the Normandy beaches in France."
