My dad was shipped to Hawaii approximately three months after the attack on Pearl Harbor and was there until the war ended.
Here’s a bracelet he made for his then fiancé, my mother. The stainless steel band is made from an engine cowling off of a B17 bomber that had been destroyed during the attack. The brass heart is made from a name plate off of a damaged door removed from the USS California, which was damaged in the attack, eventually sunk and was later raised, repaired and put back into service. The two rivet heads are from one of the few Japanese planes we were able to shoot down, a Zero. Dad spent considerable time making the bracelet by hand and said that he would have given up had he not already told my mom he was making it for her. He had her name engraved at a jeweler in Honolulu.
I would wear something like that with pride. Really nice.
That bracelet has a lot of history built-in.
