Shot this with my 150-600mm lens, the only lens I had at the time. Intended to shoot an owl in a friend's tree but was too dark to get much of anything.
While there, to my surprise, I saw these migrating pelicans at the end of his street. First shot was taken at 460 mm.
I couldn't get all the birds in one shot, needed to make a panorama shot. The second shot is merged 3 photos at 150mm. Haven't tried making a panorama photo before using Lightroom. I thought it did a great job seeing that I wasn't too careful and handheld.
I'm going back tomorrow with differen't lens and morning light. Should get some decent shots with a wider lens and better light.
#1 has more of a peaceful evening look to it.

With RG on this one, #1 has a nice cool evening feel about it - but I'm enjoying #2 as well.
Thank you R.G. & John.
These pictures were opportunity shots. A few minutes earlier the pelicans were extremely with as the sun was setting. I just couldn't get away from my friend, so today I'll go back, hopefully they will still be there. From my friend's information this is a resting spot before they move on further south in another 2-3 weeks.
I like both. Each has its own vibe about it. Each can stand on their own.
Two different stories, both very interesting captures.
