I've tried several times with different cables but it's still pinning trying to detect my camera for almost an hour. Please any advice?

Check to made sure you have updated lightroom. You can also call them, they are very helpful most of the time. Unless you get Lucy.

Are you convinced the issue is the camera?, The other piece of this is the port on your tablet, laptop, computer. You could also try backing up the camera menu, then reset to factory default

Through a quick search of Adobe's supported Lightroom Classic forum I found a troubleshooting checklist. Hope it helps.

For further help, please provide more information. Versions of ALL software involved (including OS). What Platform. What camera firmware? Type of cable? Connected to what port on camera? On computer? Best of luck.

Decided to have a play and see if I could 'tether' my Z8 to LR Classic. Note, tethering the camera to my PC is something I have never done before and am unlikely to ever want to do. Prior to anything I updated LR Classic to latest version and my Z8 is on the latest version firmware.

What I discovered...................................

I connected camera to PC using the Nikon supplied USB C connector between camera and PC USB 3.

In LR Classic selected File/Tethered Capture/Start Tethered Capture. Waited ages but LR would not detect camera.

Looked at Windows Explorer and although the Z8 was recognised there were no subdirectories showing my pics. Did a 'Restart' of the PC and now the Z8 was showing plus its Subdirectories with my pic files.

Went into LR Classic and again it was unable to recognise the camera when I selected File/Tethered Capture/Start Tethered Capture.

Went to LR Classic Files/Import Photos and Videos and the Z8 was shown under 'devices' and there were all my pics that I was able to select and Import.

So all was well with the procedure of connecting the camera directly to the PC and LR Classic by cable to download pics as an option.

With respect to further 'tethering' options with LR Classic of which Live View Support is mentioned according to the Adobe info this is not available with the Z8.

Continuing on from my above post I decided to see what happens when I 'tether' the Z6 to the PC by cable and see what function/control LR Classic allows.

LR Classic recognises the pic files on the card, allowing direct importing and in addition allows 'tethered' control of the camera allowing it to be set in 'Live View' from LR and giving me control from LR of focus, speed, aperture, ISO and WB.

This confirms what Adobe advise, that the Z8 does not have this option.

If you are using a MacBook the problem is likely with the operating system; this is a known issue. I had this same problem just a couple of weeks ago. I've since had updates to the OS and was just able to connect a Z7ii although LR had to be relaunched in rosetta mode. You might want to check and see if you have the latest version of software and firmware for you computer and camera. The following links may also be of some help. The second link covers a workaround for the OS until the camera manufacturers catch up with firmware updates. I did not try it myself but would have had I a real need.

Good luck, resolving these problems is part of the fun (if it can be made to work).

According to this list there is a difference between "tethered capture" and "live view support". The Z8 is supposed to do capture but not live view.

The LATEST version of the Apple OS is 14.3.1! This issue has been IFFY for quite sometime. Best of luck!

IFFY, in this case, means sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. The version of Apple's OS, the version of LrC and the camera firmware play a role. If anything is changed, this will, sometimes, stop working/not work. You know IFFY! Best of luck.

OK. I checked tethering through lightroom, it works for the Z9 and Z7ii but not the Z8. That surprised me but I guess there are enough differences between the Z8 and the others to cause problems. I did find a way to use Nikon's NX Tether software (free on Nikon's site) with Lightroom by setting up Auto import in Lightroom. Here's a Youtube video that explains it:

He's Japanese so be patient with the accent; I figure if he put in the effort to learn English I can put in the effort to try and cut through the accent.

Gotta love youtube.
