Oh thank you Jerry. That's sooo much more useful. Now, if only someone could read and translate the characters.

This is "Japan" in Japanese: 日本 according to Google Translate.

Can 'Google Translate' translate what's on the pot? I don't know how that works.

Unfortunately I don't think it will translate from a photo, only text.
I don't know if there is something that will translate (read) an image or not.

I found this listing on Ebay. Your pot does look identical to the one on Ebay.

With it right-side up, I almost figured it out, but I'll wait for someone who knows for sure.

Update, Google translate will translate from an image, but it appears that the text has to be crisp.
Blurry does not work.

According to the listing on Ebay the words mean "Made by Ikemon of Kanjoen”.

If the pot is genuine it was made in the 19th century and early 20th century (1911 at the latest) and I don't think they put the made in on products at that time. So if it said made in Japan then it's not real. I knew you were joking but you gave me the idea to further investigate.

I've heard that items marked "Made in Occupied Japan" can be valuable.

"There are many fakes out their now..." (Notice the "their." The author is Swedish.)

Yes but stuff "Made In Occupied Japan" were made after 1945. The OP pot if genuine would be made before 1911 and likely in the 1800's.

It looks like you have a very nice tea pot that is worth around 200.00.

I hope someone out there can interpret what is on the bottom of this Japanese teapot. Some copies came from China. We'd like to know if this is real or not.

I don't know if this is upside-down or right-side up.

Have you tried Google Lens?
