We went for lunch then had a stroll around looking at the sculptures made by Anton Sydney Smit a contemporary South African sculptor who was born in 1954. He is known for his large scale work and public art exhibitions.
He started exhibiting art in 1976 in South Africa with local exhibitions through the 1980’s. His first international exhibitions were held in 1991 in Rome, Milan and Singapore in 1993 and the Omni Gallery, New York in 1994.
His work was also exhibited at the inauguration of President Nelson Mandela in 1994 at the Union Buildings in Pretoria, SA.
Throughout the 2000’s until present he continues new works and exhibiting internationally.
His body of work comprises heads,, human figures, nudes, masks, hands as well as abstract works in steel, metal, stone and a unique iron and polymer cast mixture and bronze.
The purchase price of a half head figure is £5,960 ($7,544).
Not everyone’s taste but I hope you enjoy seeing the post.

Well presented, as usual, Sylvia. Interesting range of work. I enjoy the dog with the biplane.
An outstanding set, Sylvia.
Very interesting sculptures, and really well done photos! I like the first one especially!

Gorgeous work on both of your parts - and I sure love the canine with the airplane - and that last shot, which makes me crave money 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
What an unusual and interesting set!
A very interesting set of images Sylvia. Well done! How many of Anton Sydney Smit's sculptures did you and Bob buy?
Don

Pleased you found them interesting Don and thank you very much for your kind comments. Well I have to say we discussed at length what we would like to buy, myself I quite liked the large statue of the man, but after much deliberation decided that the excess baggage costs would be prohibitive!
