I had the same problem and solved it by purchasing a periscope dryer vent from Lowes.

I considered that, but I found that after moving the washer and dryer, I have enough room behind the dryer for the 6" vent. I ordered a double-door vent to put on the outside of the house for the current vent opening.

Is it possible to remove and reverse the door to swing other way?

I thought of that, but it would be out in the hall when it was open - right in the way. An alternative would have been one of those accordion type doors.

Why not just leave the current vent, seal if off (stuff it), and add the other vent?
"Two" vents wouldn't be obnoxious, would they?

That's more or less what I am doing. I'm moving the current vent, similar to the one linked below, and I'm putting a regular vent door over the outside hole.

I swapped the locations of the washing machine and the new dryer so the door to the room will close. The only problem is the location of the 4" dryer vent going through the wall. It's right behind the washer, so I'll have to make another hole in the wall and siding to reposition that exhaust vent.

Aside from making a sloppy patch, what can I do to that area on the aluminum siding where the current vent is located? I was thinking of something decorative or useful - maybe an outdoor outlet. This is in an area by the back door where no one will ever see it, but I'd like to make it look decent.

Something like this would work, but there might be a better solution. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Lambro-4-in-Dia-Plastic-Louvered-Dryer-Vent-Hood/4566286

I like this one better. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Lambro-4-in-Dia-Plastic-Louvered-Dryer-Vent-Hood/4566286

Funny you should mention that. I recently bought a 14" x 14" to provide access to plumbing behind the wall.

Use the same vent hole. Use this to make an inverted "U".

Excellent solution - no cutting, patching or rerouting - a turn key solution. Embarrassed I didn’t suggest it

Why not buy a flexible duct and run it from to dryer to the back of the washer where the exhaust hole is?

Take a piece of 1/4 in masonite and cut a circle just larger than the hole diameter. Cut it in half, paint to match the siding, insert behind the siding and use small nails or brads to hold it in place. After a bit of time goes by and you won't notice it.

I have a summer/winter box in the vent line, so that periscope wouldn't work. The hose goes to the box on the wall. I can move a flap to send the hopr air into the house in the winter and outside in the summer. It's similar to the one linked below.
