One issue, 10 sec exposures aren't long enough to collect the dim light a 30 sec exp can resolve. 10+10+10 DOES NOT EQUAL 30 SEC of exposure. They are till just 10 sec exposures.

You are partially correct, just like it takes 220x30 sec. exposures to give the same result as 9x5 min. exposures or 4x10 min. exposures. It takes a lot of 10sec exposures to equate to 30sec exposures but if you shoot enough 10 sec. you will get a very good result. Any exposure collects photons and that is what counts.

That is the concept behind a smart telescope riding on an Alt/Az mount. 10 sec. exposures are borderline for not showing field rotation. 10 sec. exposures are also not too sensitive to poor guiding/tracking. And the huge number of exposures also improves signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) since SNR is proportional to the Sq.Rt. of the number of exposures which is a benefit if you're shooting with an uncooled astro-camera.
