A friend gave me a cheap impact wrench to see if I could get it working. It's a "Snap Fresh," which he bought from Amazon a while ago, and he got a refund because it didn't work right. It spins fine in forward, but it spins in reverse for about half a second. It seems like there's something mechanical stopping it. I guess there's no harm in taking it apart and looking inside. He doesn't care if I fix it or make it worse. If I do this, I'll post pictures.

So with all the things you are involved in, you need a new project?

I'm all for projects to keep you busy but it sounds like you're juggling a lot of them.

Take photos.

Is this an electric Impact ?
If so the reversing switch isn't making good contact, probably sticking until vibrations from running makes it complete the switch process complete.

This seems to be it - pretty expensive for what it is.

Not to be a smartass he got his money Back!! and still has the tool! I would have told him to toss it in the junk and buy a good tool.

It's funny how that works. I've had that happen to me a few times. I get a refund, but I can keep whatever it is. To return the M705 mouse, they sent me a label, so I can just drop it into the UPS box. Usually, I have to bring it into town.

Well it's a 1/2" one so $99 is a low price and thus I think the quality is low too.

If I get it working, I'll see if it can loosen the lug nuts on my car. The DeWalt doesn't have any trouble with them. I suspect the problem will be obvious when I open it up.

If I had a tool that works and someone gave me a tool that didn't, I'd toss it.

That's my problem. I don't toss things.

So you're maintaining a museum of broken tools?

Well, there's broken, and then there's "broken." This tool spins forward, and if I can get it to spin in reverse, it will be good to go. Things that are totally useless get dumped, but I sometimes remove parts that I could use later.
