The MH-65 Dolphin is the Coast Guard’s oldest and most numerous current helicopter, dating to the 1980s when it was selected for the short-range rescue mission, and one of the service’s first helicopters without the capability to perform water landings.

The Dolphin is primarily a Short Range Recovery (SRR) aircraft. There are now a total of 102 Dolphins in the Coast Guard Fleet.
Chicago Air & Water Show Coast Guard Air Station Detroit was established in 1966. CGAS-Detroit aircrews handle over 200 rescues annually. Currently, the air station houses five MH-65E Dolphin helicopters.
Chicago Air & Water Show During the summer months CGAS-Detroit assumes responsibility for the southern portion of Lake Michigan (Chicago and northern Indiana) and operates from air facilities located in Muskegon, Michigan, and Waukegan, Illinois.
