Does anyone have any experience with the new Nikon 800 mm lens I just purchased it and planning on taking it to Alaska with me to try and get wildlife shots. Has anyone used it or have experience with it??

Seems like a worthwhile question to ask before purchasing it.

The reviews on this lens are phenomenal. I’ve done a lot of homework on it ..it’s a very expensive lens but the results are incredible. Plus the fact I can attain the long reach that I’m looking for.

I have had mine for about a year. For me, it is a bit heavy so don't take it on hikes but can hand hold it long enough to do photos handheld. Depending on where you go in Alaska, I could see it being very useful in places like Denali where the wild life is often at a distance. It is super sharp and has great image stabilization and of course the long reach. I assume you will have another body with a smaller lens for closer wildlife? I often pair it with the 400mm on my other body. Have a great time and enjoy your new 800mm lens!

Perznally, I see your point, and I agree, but you are ignoring a UHH Sacred Tradition.

My own "tradition" is to nevvvvvuh query the clown car about gear before or after purchase. This provides me with just the right gear and at very favorable cost.

Acoarst, others my be sharing my "tradition" without anyone ever noticing. Its invisible.

Thank you so very much for your response and your encouragement. I most certainly will enjoy it. Just got it today from B&H Photo. Going to put it on my Z9 and can’t wait to give it for a test run.

Backlighting is fun. Has lotsa potention. I tried just zooming the sliders around, and found so much hiding in there, with "in there" meaning in the thumbnail. The original should really be quite the treasure trove.

Do them all. Acoarst there really is no "all", and likewise no "best". Be fearless. Go full speed ahead and damn the critics.
