Pretty good eating if cooked right.
That taste is not a nuisance.....
......and harvesting a few of them when they get quite numerous in an area, can potentially help reduce the development and spread of disease outbreak through their numbers.

Mine don't touch the peanuts and the Blue Jays quickly remove them.
Don't touch the peanuts??
Wow!!! You must have some other special food choices that accomplish that with them.
I've not heard of squirrels having peanut allergies that might keep them away from eating those.

Great shots of a real cute pest.
That's just the problem right there: CUTE and PEST
The type of squirrel in the shot has never bothered me one iota. It has given me more than my share of entertainment and laughs. This guy is prevalent in Indiana, where I have a cottage. I live in Illinois and have a full-time house. We have grey squirrels there, much smaller than the red ones. And never a problem. I have three living in several of my trees, in fact.
The problem ones for me are the tiny, piney squirrels in Indiana. They have lived in my shed for ten years, and even poison peanut butter doesn't deter them. Every spring when I open it, I have to clean out hundreds of spent pine cones, hundreds of black walnut shells, and a floor full of seeds that they have managed to open and eat from metal containers. THOSE guys are tiny but destructive. And then when I sit in my own yard, they chatter at me because they don't like it

Place the cross hairs right behind the eye!! Don't waste any meat!!
You would love my Indiana neighbor: She has a trap for chipmunks, and whenever she hears it snap, she goes out, picks up the cage, and sets it in a ten-gallon tub of water and goes about her business. She got 35 last year
I guess you wouldn't be too pleased then if I sent you a squirrel hate for your birthday then...

I like squirrels. And I get a chuckle from their many antics and facial expressions. You have 2 nice photos here, Joe.
I have noticed, though, that even mere pictures of them stir up a ton of venom on UHH
Thanks for visiting and the comment

The second image is tragic... Mr Squirrel has been condemned for a life of sin stealing seeds from the bird feeder and will be decapitated. Head on the chopping block ~!
I agree with you Joe, " how can you resist a face like this." Squirrels were a source of enjoyment when they are tormenting the overweight house cats, outrunning them. Squirrels get low on trees and chatter then climbing much faster than the overfed cats with trimmed nails.
Great images Joe.
I had a squirrel scoping out my squirrel-proof rig that I made myself. He was looking at it from various parts of the tree, the trunk, and the ground. When I came to look at the gizmo a half-hour later, it was lying on the ground, seeds spilled around it, and my buddy had gotten his fill of them and left

Yep, if you hunt ‘em, you gotta eat ‘em.

The local game warden was my neighbor, and his son always hunted them and let me watch him doing the cleaning and skinning. I even ate some once, and it was pretty darned good - like rabbit

Sorry, Moondoggie, but squirrels aren't rodents. Rodents have naked tails (definitely NOT like a squirrel's), and two enlarged upper incisor teeth. Rats and beavers, for example.
