I'm standing on the rear deck of a friends house up in the mountains. He said that section of the river is well known for its challenges and, in warmer weather, they come down that river all the time, raging water and rocks be damned.

That looks like it could ruin a few kayaks! I can't imagine going through that.

It looks like the "ultimate" kayak challenge to me, Tom. Actually, it looks near impossible for a kayak.

I would imagine when the rainy season is in full swing, that river fills up quite a bit.

Neither can I. How do you even practice for something like that ?

I've seen videos of aggressive kayakers doing their thing. But this....holy moly.

Lovely place. I'd rather fish.

He said it did, Stan. He also said that, in those times, it ran with a good bit more force.

Hey, Ken.

He's got the only home for a LONG way in any direction. Due to the terrain along the river, his property was the only piece offering feasible access to build something on the river.

Looks like a scene from "Deliverance," Tom. I certainly wouldn't want to try my luck in that, and I've paddled in white water lots of times.

" Deliverance ". One of my favorite movies. I've kayaked only once and that turned out to be a semi-disaster...in calm waters no less. That river takes a sharp turn to the right about 50 yards past his house and there's a sandbar about another 100 yards further down where you can pull over and get out of the water. There's a trail from there that leads up to a road where rescue can help those that might have gotten wounded. It's a good mile further down the river from that point before you reach an area where you can get vehicles to the river to load you kayaks up.

Looks like one of the places where you can hear someone say, "Hold my beer and watch this!"

There's a scene in the movie in which Burt Reynolds, Jon Voigt, and the other guy hit a rock and get thrown head over heels out of the boat and into the river. If you watch it on a DVD and play that scene in stop motion, you can clearly see that this was really the actors themselves, and not stuntmen.
