Playing with the Orion Region

Playing with 10 sec. subs and a Samyang 35mm lens at f/2 on a Sony A7R V, tripod mounted.

395x10 sec. subs @ ISO1600.

Pre/postprocessed in PixInsight, Lightroom and Photoshop (Astro-Panel add-in).

Actually resulted in a better image than I expected.

I was testing what might be expected from one of the new smart telescope packages, in particular Celestron's Origin Smart Telescope with its 6" f/2.2 RASA scope. I'm familiar with the integrated Sony STARVIS IMX178C (6.4MP, 3040x2048 pixels with 2.4μm photosites) equipped camera having had a QHY 178C astro-camera which worked very well.

Looks like the Origin could be a winner!?

I suppose that for $3999 it should out perform all the other smart scopes out there. Time will tell, when you get one.

I have a ZWO SeeStar S50 ($499). Ever since I got it, we have been socked in with clouds. We finally got a decent night last week, and this is my attempt at the Orion nebula. Actually, it is the device's attempt, since I let it do all the processing automatically...

Very nice image. The Sony does’t appear to block out the Ha out as much as my canon DSLR. You can definitely see Barnard’s look in the photo.

Yup, I've found both the A7 III and A7R V have reasonable Ha response (with a long enough exposure).
