Several years ago I read a very interesting book by James Deetz "In Small Things Forgotten: An Archaeology of Early American Life" about the wealth of information that small commonly used objects can disclose about the lives of people who used them. I can see how objects, especially smaller easy to carry ones, could hold an importance for people who otherwise don't have much in the way their own material possessions. I suppose what we choose to capture (or pick up for future keeping) with the camera could have some indication about who we are. I am not talking about "spray and pray" or "assignment " shooting but just being out with camera and shooting those things that catch our fancy. Actually I am not sure I hold with much of that. Still it is an interesting discussion about how to find a connection with people.
A great (subject) as an assigned shoot.
