The Lightbulb Went Out.

I was looking for light bulbs and did a little research to see if a US-made version was available. Nope. So if we tick off the Chinese Communists we'll soon be back to coal oil lamps. Ah, but not I. I'm the proud new owner of a case of sixty-watt equivalent bulbs and I actually had a half dozen or so leftover that I found when putting the new ones away. Assuming we don't offend anybody intensely enough to knock out our power grid, I guess my Grandkids will still be working on them when they hit their seventies if that's still usable technology by then.
Well we have to prepare to purchase light bulbs from other countries. Although the USA doesn't make light bulbs many other countries do so China isn't the only place that makes light bulbs or anything else.
I may have read that GE closed their incandescent light bulb factory years ago when the Gubmt phased them out. They were the last bulb maker in the US.
So much for using light bulbs for warming a crawl space....
You can still buy heat lamp bulbs. I use them to keep the livestock water pump from freezing and for orphan lambs.
Interesting.
If we ever have to face whats not available from the US inluding labor.
Incandescent light bulbs are very inefficient...which is why they run hot.
They push out 90% infra red light (which you perceive as heat) and 10% light you can perceive.
That's why a 6 or 10 watt LED can be just as bright...and not hot to handle.
They push out 100% light that your eye can perceive.
No reason to ever have an incandescent anymore.
Sadly, how soon America forgets. A major reason why America was able to win the fight in WWII was because America had an abundance of light and heavy manufacturing plants that could be quickly retrofitted to produce military needs.
Over the years, American manufacturers have either moved their facilities off-shore or have outsourced and imported their products. Government regulations, increased cost of labor, and reduced number of qualified factory workers have left America in a pathetic state of readiness. Ask any young adult if they want to work in a heavy manufacturing plant like a foundry casting iron and see what they say. I suspect that they would rather be a TikTok social influencer with a Fans Only website.

We had more light? Heh.
It's really about doing away with inefficient lighting.
China does the labor cheap...that's why. The US has priced itself out of many markets.
Not politics really, more about economics.

These LED lights give off an uncomfortable glow. This is why, even w/ incandescents, individuals and businesses were turning to full spectrum lighting. Simple proof was in the growing effects that fsl had when employed using them on plants as it was close to the sun's output in spectrum frequencies, as opposed to either type of lighting, ie. incandescent or Led.
Uncomfortable glow? You might be getting the awful 5000K color temperature bulbs. They say it's daylight. Mmm, maybe, on a dismal cloudy day with 0 UV rays getting through (which makes colors pop). I've found 3500K bulbs to be the best for us, they're almost pure white light. 2700K mimics incandescent bulbs but to me looks sickly, jaundiced. They even have "warmer" bulbs, 2400K and 2200K. Ugh. The lower the Kelvin color temperature the "warmer" the color.

Full Spectrum Lighting is still an LED. It's the second or third(?) generation...it keeps advancing.
