A Mole in One—a Warning against some sensitives.

On occasion, I have some luck on one of my walks in finding an interesting mammal specimen to photograph. These images are from a dead Eastern mole I found dead along a trail. The specimen was fresh enough its stomach fur had not begun to fall out. As best I could tell the mole had been killed by something like a talon through the top of its head. Any rate, I have always appreciated the complexity of the body form and natural history of a mole.

A mole's fur is very soft and silky. Reason might be so soil doesn't cling to it. But it's very surprising for such a VARMINT to have such exquisite fur. I learned from experience that if you have a lot of trees, you will have moles, at least in central Illinois. And the 2 Cairn terriers didn't deter or eliminate them, bah!

Great pictures of the Mole/Vole. I never get to shoot a good looking one since they're all chewed up by our Westies.
