Years ago a local asked me to evaluate some popular brand of flash and see what I thought.
The rsults were not vary good. The flash gear could not keep pace with a standard photo session.
I learned a valuable lesson about exposure use digital technology, that under exposed images (dark) could be 'saved' in Photoshop using curves (mainly).
