Osprey leaving the nest... BIF
Lovers Key beach, Florida.... Late January, so sun angle is low anyway even when late morning... Sun was just right of dead center behind me. After taking many photos of them in the nest, I got exposure set to either no blinkies or just a very few of the tiniest areas.
Aperture f6.3, shutter 1/640, iso 100.
When he launched, I held down the shutter. Being a Nikon D3500, frame rate was 5 fps... I got a total of 13 frames before lifting. I have camera set to constant focusing mode, focus point on the center point, AF mode set to "Dynamic Area", basically using the center 5 of the 11 focus points... And due to the crisp sharp lighting, EVERY one of the 13 frames was in perfect focus...below are the only ones with the whole oprey head showing.... If only it was always like that. But it was optimal conditions!
And, with exception of cropping to 4:5 and the tiniest of bump in saturation (didn't really need it, but I did .. a layman would hardly notice it if they were side by side)... So 'basically' these are SOOC...
Really like the motion blur on the wing tips... These almost look surreal.
But for a small little entry level consumer camera and lens (AF-P 70-300 4.5-6.3 VR)... I'm ALWAYS amazed at it's performance...I call it "The Little Camera that CAN!"... (instead of the The Little Train that Could... Lol)
So I always recommend to people just starting, save some money, get a D3XXX camera and one of their cheap VR lens, and get out there and start clicking away... Learn learn learn... They'll take excellent photos!
Forgot to mention, metering set to "center weighted"
You know that you can't really do that without using a mirrorless camera, don't you?
These are very well done!
Congratulations on a great set done with a nice camera!!!
Retired CPO, I know, right!?... But since I'm retired and traveling in the RV at the moment, I need that money for gas!.... And I'm learning how to deal with with my entry-level camera.. 😉
Thanks everyone for the compliments, but seriously the beautiful light here in Florida is making the job easy!.... I'm loving it here!
