High Health Care Costs

WHY OUR HEALTH CARE COSTS ARE SO HIGH!

Kevin had shingles. Those of us who spend much time in a doctor's office should appreciate this! Doesn't it seem more and more that physicians are running their practices like an assembly line?
Here's what happened to Kevin:

Kevin walked into a doctor's office and the receptionist asked him what he had. Kevin said: 'Shingles.' So she wrote down his name, address, medical insurance number and told him to have a seat.

Fifteen minutes later a nurse's aide came out and asked Kevin what he had...
Kevin said, 'Shingles.' So she wrote down his height, weight, a complete medical history and told Kevin to wait in the examining room.

A half hour later a nurse came in and asked Kevin what he had. Kevin said, 'Shingles..' So the nurse gave Kevin a blood test, a blood pressure test, an electrocardiogram, and told Kevin to take off all his clothes and wait for the doctor.

An hour later the doctor came in and found Kevin sitting patiently in the nude and asked Kevin what he had.

Kevin said, 'Shingles.' The doctor asked, 'Where?'
Kevin said, 'Outside on the truck. Where do you want me to unload 'em??'

Having had shingles, I can offer this; I went to my daughter's houseto do some gardening. During the course of a hot summer's day, I had to cut down some Ivy, which had been there some time. As this very old, it was extremely dusty. I went home in the evening. The next day, I was covered in lumps round the left side of my head. Not knowing what else to do, I went to chemists shop in a town about ten miles away. The chemist had a look, and said " I think you are allergic to something". I went home; the next morning, I was really covered in lumps. So I went tro the Hospital. The charge Nurse had a look, and I don't like that". I wll have to see the specialist. " Saw a very young Doctor. She looked at my lumps, then with a big smile, said" you have shingles". You have less than 4 hours to get the pills, otherwise you
will really suffer." I didn't know what shinlgles Was ! And boy did I suffer. Two
years later, It still gives me gyp- I wake up scratching! Iwas told it is a virus!

Hi I am a nurse as well as a photographer. The virus for shingles is the chicken pox virus. It stays in your body from when you had the chicken pox when you were young. There is a shingles vaccine and you can still get it even though you have had shingles. Costco pharmacy gives the vaccine; you need a drs order if you are under 60. I am turning 50 in a few days and I chose to get the vaccine as I have seen many people get shingles at a young age. I had to pay out of pocket but it was worth it to me and cheaper than the long term problems with shingles. It is painful and can be long lasting.
Please consult your doctor. You can also go to cdc.gov and click on vaccines for more information

I would urge everyone to get the shingles vaccine. I know how bad it can get. My wife got a bad case 19 years ago. At first it was misdiagnosed, when they finaly found it was shingles it was too late and it caused nerve damage. Called Post herpitc nuralga. She is in constant pain. Been on every pain med with no help. Even had an implant like 10s unit with wires running up her spine. Very little help. Had to have it removed when snhe had to have an MRI. My wife was very active. Walked five miles three times a week. Boweled on a womans teem. Now she is mostly bed ridden. So again I urge all to get that shot. Its not cheap but well worth the cost.

The vaccine at Costo is 180.00--well worth the price compared to the cost of the disease
