It started with Nam and LBJ running the show, you know the results. Then how many others have the Presidents thought they knew how to run a war more than our military generals? How many of those, what ever they were" wars, fights, scrimmages or what ever they what to call them, an you know the results.
Today Biden said that he has decided how he is going to respond to the attack in Jordan. The man can't even find his way to the podium to tell us how he is going to do it unless he has help. Here we go again. I remember a History teacher that said 'If you don't learn from the mistakes of the past you are doomed to repeat them. Here we go one more time - when we will ever learn?

Never - to answer your question. Each succeeding President believes his/her solution is much better than his/her predecessor. FDR and HST interfered with the military during WWII; HST during Korea; and as you cited, LBJ during Viet Nam. Of course, MacArthur was our greatest problem during Korea. His ego caused strategic blindness.
The biggest problem I have with any of this, is why we're involved at all. We're holding on to sandboxes, and we've needlessly seen three good Americans k**led because of it.

For me, none. Trump did not like war and had none started during his administration. He wanted America out of the Middle East ASAP. Under Biden we are part of two wars with another in the Middle East looming soon depending on he handle Iran's proxy attacks on America.
With 165 attacks so far and Biden's admitted one word caution, DON'T. It seems Biden is playing out his most favorite role of being a pussy. When was/is he going to do something to make it stop? Was it the 50's attack, the 100th attack, the 150th attack, WHEN?

I pair him with the Afghan War surrender. He surrendered to the Taliban by withdrawing American troops down to 2100 and giving the Taliban the 2/2020 date for total withdrawal of US troops.

Biden had the OPTION of declaring the agreement with the Taliban “Nul-and-Void”, after he assumed office.
He chose NOT to do so; instead adhering to the prior agreement, while not allowing for a withdrawal of all military equipment and supplies.
Instead the rapid withdrawal “gave” the Taliban billions of dollars worth of weapons and equipment.
And now some of that abandoned material is being used against America and to oppress women and minorities.
