Focused Stacked Image of Cranefly Eyes

This is a focused stacked image of the compound eyes of a cranefly using a 5X magnification microscope objective as the optic for the camera.

One of the things that I enjoy (that is not immoral, illicit, or fattening) is seeing the little things around me in new ways. Through the years, I have seen countless craneflies, however, I never realized how interesting the multifaceted iridescent eyes were until I viewed them under magnification.

Intriguing, Gary! Detailed, but still scary.

Thanks, UTMike. One may not know how alien little critters may look until they view them under magnification.

Outstanding Gary! But does your specimen have all six legs. That's a line that entomologists ask if they are pinned in a collection. Very difficult to do.
