It's a minor upgade...in less than two years...the new lens is...meh...and overpriced big time.

Tea leaves...some can read them...some cannot.

Get caught in a lie and just ignore it and keep parroting the same nonsense.

I can tell what is gonna go by the wayside, the dire wolf. Oh wait, it is already extinct.

You keep saying that. Can you explain how it’s the same old sensor if it’s a stacked sensor and the old one isn’t? No? I didn’t think so.

It's the same technology...just stacked...OM-Systems can't get off a 20MP sensor.

That's why it is the same old sensor...not saying it's a twin...it is tweaked up no doubt.

Don't answer your own questions btw in the same sentence...it is rude.

Wow, you really don’t have a clue. And you calling anyone else rude is hilarious.

Same ol' sensor...can't get off of 20 mp...same ol' sensor.

I have enough clues to know when a corporation hasn't enough capital to expand and innovate.
OM-D has zero intention of being that sort of company.

They can do the math...that you ignore.

You can try and spin what you say all you want, but it’s easy to see right through you. First you say they’re just using up the same old sensor leftover from previous models. Then you claim it’s the old sensor but they tweaked it. I point out that it’s a stacked BSI sensor, completely different technology that can’t be achieved by “tweaking” old sensors. So now it’s the same old sensor because it’s still 20mp, (which is plenty for most people). I guess Sony really blew it with the A9III since all they did was tweak the same old 24mp sensor.

gwilliams6, I have no reason to doubt your information. Yes, the 8 stops can be found in both the A7 mkIV and A9 mkIII (8 and 8.5 are basically the same in my opinion). And as many manufactures as can, they tie in their lens's IS to their body's IS. I personally think it has been one of the best technical advances for cameras.

Although most of the optical design came from Sigma, the "tweaks" were from OMDS. The Sigma lens has 4 stops IS while the OM lens has 7 stops IS (with 7 stops ILIS, Panasonic 4/3rds can also use the lens). The Sigma lens is listed as "dust and splash-resistant structure" with no rating. The OM lens is rated as IP53 and truly weatherproof. How much did these design changes and quality upgrades cost (they were not free). The OM 150-600 may or may not be "way overpriced". But I am not surprised by some of the sharing of one company's product. Sigma makes more profit on a design and sale of parts and OMDS only needs to modify the design to meet OMDS's upper end non-professional lens requirements. This becomes a win-win for both companies.

First I think the OM-1 system is very good and most OM-1 users seem really thrilled with the advances and that 150-600mm lens, whatever its internal origins. I have no personal experience using the new OM-1 version 2, or that 150-600mm lens.

I can only base my comments here on what those that actually have tested and reviewed the system are reporting.

My thread headline is from the headline of the youtube video I linked, not my personal words, that is why I have it in quotations.

Adding tweaks to this Sigma lens, is that worth the extra $1200 USD over the $1400 USD price of the Sigma fulflrame 150-600mm DG DN version? Some reviewers, including some OM users think that is a bit too much, and too big and heavy for micro 4/3rds.

I have no bone to pick in this one. For OM-1 system users, enjoy the new stuff and the new lens, and be happy.

The reality is that when micro 4/3rds starts costing the same and even more than fullframe gear and starts to have lenses that weigh the same as fullframe lenses, IMHO it becomes harder to sell the advantages of size, weight and cost of micro 4/3rds vs the image quality disadvantages inherent in the smaller sensor size of micro 4/3rds. .

Cheers and best to you.
