Another Swiss mountain destination, favored by many, is the Bernese Oberland. Internationally the most famous town in this area is Interlaken, located between Lake Brienz and Lake Thun and pretty much at the foot of a number of great mountains, particularly the famous Trio: Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Slightly more into the mountains, up from the town of Lauterbrunnen famous for a number of nearby waterfalls (like the Reichenbach Falls where Conan Doyle had his hero Sherlock Holmes find his demise), lies the town of Wengen, a car-free town that can only be reached by train.
We stayed at the Hotel Beausite Park at the upper edge of the town of Wengen a few years before during the winter season, where our older grand children tried their first steps in ski boots. Since we very much enjoyed that winter time in Wengen, we gave the area another chance in the summer - and we loved the experience just as much. From Wengen we made a few excursions: into the Lauterbrunnen valley, up to Mount Männlichen (located on the extensive grounds of the town of Grindelwald) for a hike in that alpine area as well as to the town of Mürren on the other side of the Lauterbrunnen valley. The images below were taken during our time in Wengen.
A few details to the mountains visible in image #1: The dark faced mountain at left center is the Breithorn (3780m/12,402ft), to the right of the glacier is the Tschingelhorn (3562m/11,686ft), at right the long crete of the Ellstobenhorn culminating in the Gspaltenhorn (3436m/11,273ft).

Thanks Chief for looking in again and your kind words. Switzerland remains there, patiently waiting for you!
A wonderful mountain tour, Joe! In the '60s, the military ski clubs would go to this area during the US Thanksgiving holiday. It was just before the official December 1 opening and we had excellent skiing with the place to ourselves.

It sure is beautiful up in these mountains, they don't come much better than at this location, though the Dolomites in Italy were, though very different, a close runner-up. I am not sure whether you noticed my post of these (see post #10)

You reminded me something, Joe! When riding on a train in Switzerland, I felt like flying on the plane...
Well done!
