Thank you Stan. Unfortunately we didn't miss out - there are over 500 varieties of grasshopper in Australia. They are a pest in the garden and a few species swarm in large numbers from time to time causing a lot of damage to crops. However they are a source of food for some snakes, lizards, birds, frogs, sugar gliders, ants and worms apparently.

Thank you Sinewsworn. I was staying with a cousin in a market garden region near Adelaide in South Australia when a plague of locusts hit - wiped out all the crops which left most of the farmers without an income for many months.
