weberwest Loc: Ferndale WA

This set contains a potpourri of images from 3 different countries, with a high concentration of images from ROME, the ETERNAL CITY, capital of Italy, where we spent six days, visiting an old friend and reacquainting ourselves with this city that we last visited 30 years before in 1992. Additionally, I present 2 photos from a day drive into the eastern Jura region of France, very close to France's border with Switzerland, where we enjoyed an exquisite lunch al fresco in ST HIPPOLYTE of trout fished right below the restaurant in the river Doubs, which for quite a stretch actually forms the border with Switzerland. The final 2 images come from another day-drive into southern Germany where we visited the pleasant university town of TÜBINGEN.

ROME/ITALY - With a population of 4.3 mio, Rome is the third largest city in Europe, and its history spans 28 centuries. While Roman mythology dates the founding of Rome at around 753 BC, the site has been inhabited for much longer, making it a major human settlement for almost three millennia and one of the oldest continuously occupied cities in Europe. ST HIPPOLYTE/FRANCE - Compared to the vast Eternal City of Rome, this small village of 940 is just a speck on a map, but we found it interesting to stroll here for a short while - and enjoyed taking additional time to taste an excellent "Truite de la Mère Guenot" (trout of mother Guenot). TÜBINGEN/GERMANY - With a population of 92,000, Tübingen's size is squarely in the middle of the 3 locations in this set. Its famous Eberhard Karls University was founded in 1477 which makes it one of the oldest in Central Europe. It also reputedly has the highest quality of life of all German cities.
