Winter can be a mixed bag in southern New Mexico. In general it is my favorite season after fall (with spring now being my least favorite because it warms up too quickly and the wildfires start and there's no promise of rain for months). My explorations take me from mountain forests to deep canyons to high desert depending on the conditions. Many of my trails, or things that pass as trails, are precipitously steep, so I avoid them if I suspect mud or ice. A few days ago, after a lot of rain and wet snow, I found myself momentarily stepping in quicksand, and boy does that snap you out of a daydream in a split second.
These photos give you a sense of the variety I enjoy on my wanderings. They are in no particular sequence. None of these areas are more than a thirty-minute drive from my house, though getting to the spots pictured may take some time. I hope you enjoy these views.
Really nice set. Love seeing all that snow and water. Hope most of it soaks into the ground before it runs off.

Thanks! It seems like a lot of the water really is soaking in, and in the mountains we got a good blanket of snow after a lot of rain, so hopefully that will kind of act as a seal.

Absolutely wonderful set
Thank you very much. I have fun with my smartphone and it means I don't"t always have to lug a heavy camera around.

These are beautiful.
Isn't it a gorgeous area? I've lived here for three and a half decades and only discovered the canyon featured in the final two photos within the last year; I felt like I died and went to heaven.

Nice set of photos.
Thank you. I'm always dumbfounded when I learn that people who live here never actually get out into the forest! That's okay--more room for me.

Yes it's very pretty here, though when things dry up it looks quite different. Like NM Gal I relish any water.

Thanks. I enjoy showing off my backyard.
That’s a great set, nice variety and just very nice photos. Thanks for sharing your wanderings.
Really a great and beautiful variety of shots. Your cell did a great job capturing them and the photographer excelled at the composition and technical aspects. Great job. You live in a beautiful place.
