The Shoshone Indians ruled this area for ages. They raised sheep for food and clothing.. Therefore, this very unique rock structure is called " Sheepeaters Cliff "

Located in the Yellowstone National Park, this array of columnar joints was formed about 500,000 years ago as the basalt lava cooled.

Just for kicks, I threw a lot of my infamous rust elixir all over the place to see what would happen. Geeze, I hope the Park people don't find out who did this. I'll be banned for life.

The Sheep Eaters hunted the Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep; they did not raise them. There are two "jumps" in this area where big game animals were stampeded over the cliff and dispatched.

I don't know about that, Mike, but I sure enjoyed your work of the place.

Take care, my friend.

Thanks for dropping by and commenting. You're right about them not raising the sheep

Looks like a failed attempt at another Devils Tower formation. Nice images, Tom.

Excellent images of this location that too many people drive on by. It is a good spot to photo Pika's and marmots.
