This image is from Scott Wells...He uses a Nikon z9 with a 600mm lens...I have a Nikon D850, D500, and am using a Sigma 150-600 lens...is it every possible to get this level of sharpness without a mirrorless camera and a prime lens? These images are amazing...

To answer your question......yes it's very possible to get your images as sharp with your DSLRs. Please don't buy in to the thought that a mirrorless camera is going to produce an image that's sharper than your DSLR. Mirrorless cameras are wonderful modern technology that make taking photos much easier in some respects but those experienced photographers here in this forum will tell you that it's the person behind the camera, not the camera.

I do that on a regular basis with a D850! You don't have to go "Z"!

Show us one. Extremely difficult with the wings in this position. You’d have to maintain spot focus on the eye of a moving owl. Group focus would have picked up the wingtips.

Yes, I got very good results from my D500, many surpassing that eagle photo. And yes, there’s absolutely no reason a D850 can’t be as sharp as a Z9, but my Z9 does make it easier and yes experienced photographers will tell you that’s the person behind the camera that’s important. But many of those photographers would choose a modern mirrorless over a DSLR.

Since you didn’t use “quote reply” I’ll let everybody know you’re talking to me. 😜🤪
Yes, sharpness isn’t everything, but my image is also sharper where it counts.

Absolutely and I certainly understand that. If I didn't have so much invested in DSLR bodies and lenses, I would certainly have a Z9.

SLRs really can deliver perfect auto focus. Only snag is that it happens far less often.

Especially with things in the frame close to the focus point and closer to the lens.
