I consider myself lucky to be looking forward to my 80th birthday in a few months. So many people never make to half that age. Take a look at the world average and averages by country.

Unfortunately, I suspect that some people will not be able to control themselves, and this will be sent to The Attic.

I wonder what the life expectancy is for men whose wife finds out that they bought new camera gear compared to men with no interest in photography. ๐Ÿ˜

You would have to consider two things: the cost of the camera and how many cameras he already has. Men with no interest in photography probably drink a lot and chase after women. The wife of the camera buyer should consider herself lucky.

Now that would be an interesting statistical analysis. Maybe Longshadow can take that on after he gets done with his "RAW-JPEG" survey. ๐Ÿ™„

That is because you place a lot of orders from Amazon. They have to keep you alive. Also there will be fewer posts in the chit chat without you we have to keep you going too.

My family has a mixed bag of life expectancy, but to my knowledge, only my paternal grandmother lived to be more than 81 years old. Her headstone says 85, but we never really knew how old she was because when asked she would not give a straight answer. My mother was 81 when she died of lung cancer, her only sister was the same age when she had a stroke. My paternal grandfather died young, when my dad was just a young boy, and Dad himself was only 57 when he had a fatal heart attack.

I have had mostly good health all my life, and my second wife is a health food nut who is determined to keep me alive to at least 100. Everyone in her family lives that long and she thinks it's natural; Her mother was 101, her dad 100. Both were active until the day they died, although her mother suffered from dementia. My problems are mechanical, with things like arthritis giving me trouble, but no cancer, no heart problems and I get around pretty well. I can't play softball, but I can still walk a mile or so, as long as the trail is not too steep...

Two younger brothers have had problems, one with his heart and the other with cancer. I am currently the oldest in our family, and I may survive at least one of them.

I'll be 81 in less than a month. Let's see if I can get to 85...I'm coming for ya, Grandma.

Men with overweight wives tend to live longer than those who mention it.

Beer. ! It's the reason I get up every afternoon.

If you want to really feel good, look at life expectancy prior to 1900...

You never know! My mother died at 71, my dad at 73, my brother at 64, my son at 55, my husband at 79. I am 86. I had cancer at 53 but other than that have never needed a Dr more than 6 times in my life. Two of those were to have children and 2 for severe allergies. I have been blessed.

Old car buffs and photographers may spend a lot of time in the shop or with the camera. Normally you wonโ€™t find those guys drinking a lot because being liquored up increases the chance of wrecking the old car or dropping the camera. And momma generally knows where you are or what youโ€™re doing.

Booze and ballgames tend to go together. Yes momma knows where you are at, setting on your dead butt yelling at the tv. I believe most women would prefer the former rather than the latter, especially if she doesnโ€™t like loud noises, sopping up beer off the couch and vacuuming potato chips out of the carpet.

And remember, as long as you are in the house you increase the chances of her wanting to talk about boring stuff like emotions, feelings and what her girlfriends said about their relationship with their husbands. Women never want to talk about interesting stuff like trucks, motorcycles, guns, riding lawnmowers and setting on the couch drinking beer and yelling at the tv.

Yes indeed, one is blessed to reach 80, especially with reasonably good health. I'm pushing hard on my 90th birthday and still enjoying 'snapping' a few photos, messing with Photoshop Elements and just learning and existing, so I consider myself very blessed. I just got home after a two-week 'stay' in the hospital because of Covid Pneumonia, which really kicked my butt, but doing my best to make a come-back. Hang in there, Jerry! The Hog needs you.
God Bless,
Papa Joe

It boils down to genetics, lifestyle, life choices, and in many cases just blind luck. When your number is up its lights out.

Good DNA and bad DNA in my family history. Maternal side of family had 90's and up to 101. Paternal side horrible history... but ALL smokers.

Not smoking is a huge life extender. Now sugar is the new salt.
