Beep? What Beep?

I set up the key locator on my son's key fob. When I pushed the button on the remote, it made a high-pitched beep that I couldn't hear. Fortunately, my son hears it very well. If I hold the tab up to my ear, it's nice and loud, but it would be useless to help me find something. Maybe the set that arrives tomorrow will get into my ears.

Getting old has its drawbacks.

My brother (78) was having difficulty hearing high frequency beeps - microwave, coffee maker, air fryer - and went to the audiologist for hearing test - they cleaned out a lot of wax buildup - he hears great now.

Me on the other hand have a high frequency hearing loss from being aircrew in the service. It takes 78 db for me to hear 4000hz so I have hearing aids tuned to the frequencies I am having issues with.

Just some thoughts

You get what you pay for. I use Peeblebee. My phone connects to the tag on my keys to find them. The tag on the keys has a button to find my phone. Peeblebee uses Bluetooth
However, it's a little more pricey than the one you purchased.

$15 for four tags was a good deal. It's loud enough for my son to hear, so "Mission accomplished." The tags that connect to phones cost $25 or more each. That would amount to $200 for our needs.

The tones on the Peeblebee are changeable, like a cell phone. I thought that this feature would help you out. It also came with a credit card sized tracker, fits perfectly in a wallet. A map shows on my phone as well. Charged it Christmas day and it still has 95% battery life.

Thanks. I'll look into that.

A key locator beep is a high frequency sound. Many older folks (sorry Jerry!) have a high frequency hearing impairment. I've worn hearing aids since I was 40, 47 years due to a high frequency loss.

Good luck with finding keys!

How about not leaving them lying around just anywhere ?
Always put your stuff away in the same place then the problem goes away.
Although it can be a bit of a bugger when someone else shifts it. One of the things my wife and I argue about.
Start doing this with your reading glasses then expand the list of items that have their own places.
The good thing about this is when it becomes second nature so as dementia starts locations will have become ingrained so you won't lose so much stuff.

My son and a friend took an online hearing test. Each one's hearing failed at the age the program suggested. Makers of electronics should change the frequency of their warnings. I seldom hear my UPS beeping when something happens.

There's a similar situation with the back-up alarm on vehicles. The complaint is that it is so common now that people ignore them. Some vehicles are using a different sound.
