Miami Metro Zoo.
I visited the Miami Metro Zoo yesterday. It was cool with a breeze and it was mostly cloudy. This is the first time I use Auto WB and Auto ISO and both did a great job.
Because it was cloudy most of the time I noticed in my editor that the RAW data was contrasty with saturated colors. I corrected that to taste in Affinity Photo. I used basic editing and I had to correct colors in some of the files.
I was using my new camera, an Olympus EM-5 D Mk III that I bought as a refurb from OM Digital Solutions, the new Olympus. It is a very capable tool with the recently bought Olympus 75-300 (150-600 equivalent if using full frame.) All images were made hand held. Images made at 600mm were holding details but I had some softness. The lens does very well up to 200mm but from there on a tripod in my opinion is the best solution for sharp images.I bet that using a tripod and or continues AF the outcome would have been totally different. I am not what you could call a wildlife photographer.
I seldom use matrix metering (multi pattern) but this time I did and in spite of that I had to use exposure compensation often.
The AF was set to single shot with a large target that I placed at the center. It worked to perfection although at times and, while the animals and birds were moving, continues AF would have been a better choice. I will be testing the camera with continuous AF soon.
The camera has 20 megapixels and it is waterproof. It has 5 stops of image stabilization, a new to me processor and the same AF of the OM-1 D Mk II, that is, contrast and phase detection which my previous cameras lacked. The AF was pretty fast and precise.
Most animals did not show up in spite of the good weather. The Zoo has a new member, a baby tiger and the hours to see the mother and her cub together have been limited. All images hand held. I am ready for a second visit, most probably next week at which time I will use a tripod and continues AF for the first time with this new tool. I found more birds at the Zoo than what I saw while visiting the Everglades National Park.
Here are some of the images I made.
All are beautiful. The giraffes posed perfectly for you!
Thank you gentlemen for your kind comments. Let me repeat it once again, I am not what you could call a wildlife photographer. I bought the Zuiko 75-300 after deciding to get involved a little bit more into wildlife photography and the new camera has phase and contrast detection, something my previous olympus did not have. The new camera also has 3 thousand pixels more and although it is hard to see the difference compared with my previous bodies those pixels should help with cropping and enlargements.
Once again, thank you for the kind comments.
Really nice. Love the giraffes. The pose of the flamingos is wonderful.
Beautiful. With lots of detail.
