Europe 2023 Summer - Photo Preview 12 - Croatia: Nature Pure in Plitvice Lakes NP
Our main reason for extending our "Eastern Alps Drive" down into Croatia was to revisit the Plitvice Lakes National Park. We explored this park for the first time in 1990 when we just passed through as a day-visitor. We subsequently felt that we needed more time in this magnificent park. It took us 33 years, but we finally made it again, this time staying overnight at one of the few hotels right in the park, which allowed us the proper time to do a number of the hikes along the lakes and waterways, mainly on footpaths and at times on raised boardwalks. We could and probably should have spent much more time here. It truly is a magical setting and I hope that you will enjoy the few images I present below. I will have a couple of more photos in the next set, when I combine 3 widely dispersed areas of Croatia, Slovenia and Austria into one post.
PLITVICE LAKES NATIONAL PARK - Excerpt of the opening statement of the UNESCO World Heritage Convention: "Croatia's largest national park covering almost 30,000 hectares (300 kmĀ² / 75,000 acres), is situated in the central part of the country. Within a beautiful karst landscape dominated by a mix of forests and meadows, the magnificent Plitvice lake system stands out, fascinating scientists and visitors alike. Interconnected by many waterfalls and watercourses above and below ground, the lakes are grouped into the upper and lower lakes."

Love the waterfalls, especially the fourth image. The walk is very inviting, and I can almost hear the creek.

What a beautiful area and so well shot.
Apparently a very moist, warm environment. Beautiful photos.
Gorgeous! Plitvice lake is a theme on many of the TV "wallpaper" programs. Well done!

Thanks Barbara, very moist definitely and at the time of our visit quite warm, but it can have snow there - I just checked: at the moment the temperature is in the 40s.
