The Checker was a great but somewhat ugly designed for the Taxi Cab industry, having a Continental Flathead Six cylinder engine which was easily rebuildable allowing for many years service.
Sadly they were forced to make the vehicles available to the general public, Since they were not geared to MASS production they failed and closed their doors.
They were Big, Heavy and had a good ride, I think most were Stick shift, I don't remember seeing one with and automatic trans.
