My favorite movie of all time. I’ve probably watched it 10 times. Citizen Kane and Gone With The Wind are also way up there on my list.

When Casablanca first came out the cast and Producers thought of it as making a quick B movie. They had no idea it would go on to win a slew of Academy Awards. Ronald Reagan was screen tested to play the part of Rick. Thank God he didn’t get the part. I think Bogart was just perfect for the part.

I’ve seen two different versions of it in color. I thought it would be blasphemy to watch a colorized version of it, but it was actually quite good.

I remember seeing it in the movies in the movies when it was released. I don't think I can match your record of 10 times, but I've "rewatched" it many times.
Thanks for the info and reply!

If you liked Gone With the Wind, they made a two hour documentary of it called “ The Making of Gone With the Wind.” Fascinating.

Mark:
I truly salute you
"IF" you viewed the movie the year it was released ---
It was released the year I was born 1942
One of my all-time favorites
PS: Probably have seen it over the yrs 2/3 times -- But for what it's worth - which is absolutely nothing!! - did read War & Peace 6 times -- Thinking I may give it yet another good long scan

Fun facts. Dooley Wilson couldn't play the piano, and Max Steiner, who did the score for the movie, didn't like "As Time Goes By." He was overruled on replacing it. It wasn't just Bogart and Bergman who made the movie. Some say that Claude Rains stole the show.

I agree about Claude Rains. I don’t know if he stole the show, but it wouldn’t be the same without him.

Casablanca is in my top 20, along with The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Maltese Falcon and the African Queen. All outstanding Bogie flicks! One of my favorite scenes of all time is Bogie's chutzpah in The Treasure of the Sierra Madre when he, a lone Yank in Mexico, says to the bandidos ... "Where's your badges? You need badges."

I have Casablanca on VCR, CD and Blue Ray. Colorized and B&W. To me there is a difference between my favorite movie, Thunder Road with Robert Mitchem and the best movie, the original B&W Casablanca. I have no idea how many times I have watched either one. I also re-read books and listen to music over and over again.
