Wabi Sabi Flower Portraits

A post by Linda of Maine introduced me to the Japanese concept of Wabi Sabi, where beauty is found in decay. Here's some portraits from a tired bouquet, photographed before they were discarded. Photographed on a light table, bracketed exposures, processed with Photomatix to enhance translucency. Thanks, Linda!

When I want to do this to flowers, I have always used black - but I think your exquisite results have given me a shove in the direction of white as well 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍

I like these, especially #2 and #6, for their stark minimalism. It's a nice way to honor spent flowers.

DWU2, Thanks for your post. No. 3 is my favorite. Would appreciate knowing more specific details about how you took the photos. Great way not to waste flowers.

The flowers were shot on an LED light box. I have a HSK A4 Artist tracing Light Box. Camera was tripod-mounted directly overhead. I shot a series of 5 brackets, aperture priority, ranging from 0 EV to +3 EV. I then created an HDR image by processing via Photomatix, using one of the most natural (least HDR-y) presets. I cleaned up the results slightly in Photoshop.
