Walk on Eggshells With LUT

In an exercise of photographing white on white I chose to do eggshells. Egg shells have variations of whiteness their contour gives an interesting shadow effect on the shell and the supporting flat surface. I used a program called Weasis to give color to gray scale.

The program to add color to X-Rays/CT Scans for easer interpertation, Weasis a free program is used. Within the program are Look Up Tables, LUT, that convert gray scales into color. "The latest software developed at the University Hospital of Geneva (HUG) for medical imaging is Weasis which is the clinical viewer in the home-made Electronic Medical Records. Weasis is open source since 2010 and has become a reference DICOM viewer."

The original image, please excuse the spots, the starting image is old with an old camera. The purpose of this post is to show Weasis and where to download the program containing LUTs.

Wherever did you find this fascinating program? I think your whole presentation is an exercise in unearthing uses for the ordinary. Most interesting! Who knew an egg holds so much color in its depth of whiteness! Thank you so much for this VERY interesting topic!

I explained to the CT Scan Technician that I had done 5 years in medical research and that the technical was of interest, I asked for a copy of the scan. She graciously gave me a CD containing the scan but the included viewing program was proprietary and expensive. So Mr. Google provided me with this program.

Depth of whiteness was the reason White-on-White was assigned by the club for that month.

Interestingly, I found that Topaz Clean 6 is better than Clean AI. The individual you chose sliders gives control vs AI Automatic, we know best. My old work with Excel was better than New-Improved Excel... it does not allow me to do complicated actions and is geared toward the casual user.

The title is a play on an old movie...: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Egg_and_I_(film)

To add to your query this is the LUT. If you choose one and it does not suit you, you can revert to the original image. If the color or colors are too intense, Topaz Clarity will adjust tone, saturation, and luminosity.

Note that the "Default" image far left gives what shade of gray/blackness will be what color. This program will also be useful in work with IR when the 720 nm filter is used resulting in shades of gray.

Be aware that ON1 Effects a Plugin is free program til January 29 2024.

They offer additional presets for $20 but there are free ones:
