I've tried several things from online searches and from suggestions given here. Whatever technique I tried, the options available to me were different from the directions given. I think I finally found a solution.

Go to -
1. Control Panel
2. Network Adapters
3. Intel...
4. Power Management
5. Uncheck “Allow this device to wake the computer.”

But even if you allowed the network to wake your computer there must be someone to initiated it. All of my home computers have this feature enabled and they never turned themselves on. Of course work computers are different, the danm IT guys would wake it up and delete my files when I wasn't there.

How did you get from "CONTROL PANEL" to "NETWORK ADAPTORS" ? Did you omit a step or more?

Jerry, I really wonder why everything seems to happen with you. I've used computers for 40 years and have owned about 20 over that time. But not one time did a computer ever start without me pushing a start button!

You wonder? You and me, both. What's funny is that the one I built and the Dell both self-start. My son's doesn't. Since unclicking that box, neither one has restarted, so I'll see what happens.
